Choices, Consequences, Maps and Detours Part II of II

While breathing and rubbing your foot you begin to smile as you reflect on the glorious walk you just completed and begin to plan for your walk tomorrow.  As a boomer creating the life you dream about allows you to breathe and reflect.  As you progress you’ll discover new thoughts and a new way of being that totally supports you in living the life you desire.  You begin to think “finally after all of these years…”

Just when you think all is well, a detour pops up!  Now you have another choice and a decision to make.  Of course, you can ignore the detour and accept the consequences!  Or take the detour and experience the wonderful journey.

e2joyIsn’t life grand?  Now that you’ve worked for many years, a choice of retiring or continuing to work is presented.  What do you do?  Do you remember all of the times when you were on your way to or from work and ALL you could think about was “wait until I retire, I’ll.”  Now that the time is finally here, you’re experiencing trepidation and uncertainty.  You wonder if you can have ALL of the things you thought you wanted.

Of course you can!  Just remember, if you can think about it, you can create it.  Your opportunities to create the life you desire are virtually limitless.  Think of this new passage as if it is a road.  There are curves, some steep and some very gentle.  There might be potholes, detours, corners, and crossroads.  Look at each juncture as an opportunity to choose, then make a decision and follow through.

Some of the paths you take as you begin this new journey will lead to jubilation, happiness like you’ve never known.  On the other hand, some will lead to the greatest sadness you’ve ever known.  Some roads will lead to success others to disappointment.  The one most important thing to remember is that this is a journey and there are no guarantees.  Learn the lesson and move on to the next opportunity.

You have choices and decisions to make.  Choose wisely and decide.  Once the decision is made, you can keep it as it is, tweak it or discard and make a new one.

What choices are you making today that are different from yesterday? Are your choices leading you toward your goals?

construction1You are always faced with choices and decisions.  Many times choices are presented and you’re not even aware that you have a decision to make or that you’ve made a decision.  Remember the time you found yourself giving into your granddaughter because she’s so adorable!

I know many of you have a navigational system.  I’m still using MapQuest and had quite an experience the other day finding a restaurant.  Finally, after sitting down to eat I started thinking about how MapQuest uses old information.

Have you ever been in a strange town with your MapQuest directions?  As you travel through the town, you discover that your MapQuest directions are ‘old’.  Some of the streets are closed and others have a detour because the street is under construction.  As a boomer woman much of your life is like MapQuest directions; you’re guided by old thoughts and fight kicking and screaming NO when new thoughts put you under construction.

You’re intelligent enough to know that you want change, that you want to create the life you dream about and desire but the old thoughts are just oh so comfortable.  You also know that to go under construction requires hard work.  Even though the work is hard, just imagine the ease with which you will create your desired life after the work is done.

Now don’t allow yourself to become to comfortable with the first finished project.  Think of it like this, have you ever been on a walk and got a small pebble in your shoe?  You’re so intent on completing your walk that you ignore the pebble because it’s just a little annoying.  At the end of the walk you take of your shoe and breathe a sigh of relief ahhhh!

What choices or decisions are making you uncomfortable today?

5 Ways Boomer Women Use Innovation And Creativity Every Day! Part II of II

bm-e1Allowing your creative juices to flow might take some getting use to.  Did you have an imaginary playmate when you were a child?  I know some of you still have her!  Remember all of the fun conversations you had and all the outrageous things you did with your imaginary playmate.

Reclaiming and discovering your genius and creativity is much like when you were a child.  You didn’t ask permission to have your playmate.  You don’t need permission NOW!

To get your mind thinking, it’s important to get your body moving.  The more you move your body, the more energized your brain becomes.  You then become a powerhouse of innovation and creativity!

Five tips to get you started on rediscovering your hidden talents:

1.  Exercise. Move naturally.  Take a walk, dance, play catch with the children, take a belly dance class, take up yoga and the list is endless.  As long as you’re having fun, releasing those good hormones, endorphins, clears and relaxes your mind and gives you a sense of well-being.

2.  Find your own style.  Do you remember the Clairol commercial as compared to L’Oreal?  You knew the difference even if you weren’t watching TV.  You could feel the difference in your body and in your emotions.  You can always tell a Van Gogh from a Matisse. You’ll know Shakespeare by the choice of words.  It is the same with you. People will appreciate your innovation more because it is uniquely yours and that no one else would have thought of what you were thinking.

3.  Journal. Write notes about all the wonderful things you’re thinking and doing.  Keep notes on the different reactions you’re getting from people.  Capture your dreams in your journal.  Dreams are often a prelude to your understanding your creativity.  You might awaken and think “That was the craziest dream I have ever had.”  As you go through the day, reflect on it and then let it go.  You’ll be amazed when days or weeks later you look back at your journal and discover that your dream wasn’t so crazy after all.

4.  Passion. Live boldly with passion.  Put your passion into everything you do.  First thing in the morning passionately jump out of bed.  All during the day keep your passion alive.  It could be compared to keeping a flame burning.  What talent do you have that is lying dormant?  What would happen if you allow it to unfold, gradually passionately?  Living boldly and passionately you become unstoppable.  Your creativity and innovation has no boundaries.  Your passion will keep you going.

5.  ALWAYS carry a small notebook with you.  This is the place where you write down those thoughts that seem to come from no where.  When inspiration hits, you want to be able to capture it.  Don’t worry about inspiration. You can’t force it; inspiration hits when you least expect it to, for those unpredictable yet inevitable moments you want to be prepared.  An idea can come at anytime.  You want to be able to write it down or always have a handy tape recorder.

Your creativity is entirely up to you.  I’m not suggesting that you do everything at once.  Think of it as if you going into the ocean.  There’s a whole lot of water, so you walk gently to the edge and stick you toe in.  If this feels good, you walk out further.  You continue to walk until you can swim.  Discovering your creativity is much the same.  Start small and work your way up.

Keep in mind that you’re doing these things for your own satisfaction.  Don’t be concerned about what others may think.  All too soon they’ll be asking you for advice on how they can tap into their creativity.

What will you do today that shows your creativity; that’s uniquely you?

5 Ways Boomer Women Use Innovation And Creativity Every Day! Part I of II

crea5Last week my sisters and niece came to visit along with my grand niece, Cashmere, a 13 year old Pekinese.  They drove in from North Carolina so I wanted to surprise them with a full course meal ready and waiting.  The greatest surprise of all and my delight was when they asked “what did you use to season the food?”  “It is really good!”

Little did they know that I had practiced my own advice on being innovative and creative by choosing seasoning that I thought would make the food delicious and flavorful; I also combined vegetables for taste and appeal.

The power of innovation is a talent that everyone has.  Many times as a boomer woman you think you’re not innovative because you’ve been doing the same thing over and over.  It might have been innovative when you started but now…  As you think about it you realize that you haven’t allowed yourself to tap into your genius for a long time.  Your imagination is waiting to be reengaged!

You’re stuck at the sidelines watching ALL the other creative people; wishing you were one of them.  Everyone is born creative!  You just get to unveil yours and acknowledge yourself for it.

You can create and innovate too.  Just think of BASF. Their slogan is “we didn’t make the thing, we just made it better.”  Is that not creative?  You have the same talent and ability.  Look in the mirror, how do you combine your colors, fabrics and accessories.  That is uniquely you!  Now just imagine instead of combing the colors and fabrics as you have for the past &%$ years, you change them around.  How awesome is that!

When you walk out of the room in your new combinations, you have a spring in your step, a song in your heart and a huge smile on your face!  Your mind is already starting to imagine new and creative ways to do your daily tasks.  At the end of the day, you feel energized and excited at accomplishing your goals for the day.  You’re already thinking about tomorrow and the changes you will embrace.

Close friends and family are asking “what’s come over you?” And you simply smile and say “I’m discovering my genius and unveiling my goddess.”  Their noise will sound like an orchestra out of tune!  Refuse to listen.  Listening to others will only cloud your thinking.  Follow your own thoughts use your own original ideas.  Just because you’re a boomer woman doesn’t mean that you’ve lost the ability to think.  In fact, it’s the exact opposite!

What will you do today to unveil your goddess and tap into your genius?
